Description

Join us for our first of many “Weekend Workshop” events here at Jericho Town. This month on December 1st:

Natural Dye Workshop with Salt Textile Studios | 10am-2:30pm | $75

In this Natural Dye Workshop, we will use plants, flowers, roots, seeds and bark to dye natural fibers and create a swatch book of botanical color. We will walk through the steps of preparing fiber, processing plants, and creating dye. Students will leave with the knowledge and skills to dye fiber and yarn at home and samples of all of our dye experiments. No experience necessary!

Teacher Bio: Kayla Powers is a weaver and natural dyer working out of her home studio on the East Side of Detroit. Kayla studied The History of Art at Western Michigan University and while living in Kalamazoo, began taking Floor Loom Weaving classes at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. For six years now, Kayla has been studying with different weaving teachers and exploring the craft independently. Kayla started Salt Textile Studios in 2017 as a way of bringing different fiber artists together with a common goal of creating sustainable and beautiful woven textiles. https://www.salttextilestudios.com/

Wreath Workshop with Viavi Flower Farm | 3:30-5:30pm | $45

In this workshop, you will make your own one-of-a-kind holiday wreath from in season, locally sourced flora. You will walk away with the knowledge and skills of hands-on wreath making with guided instruction. All materials will be provided for this event.

Teacher Bio: Viavi Flower Farm is a Southwest Michigan tradition founded by Wanda Miller and Jim and Mary Hood over 20 years ago to grow, enjoy, & share the beauty of local, field grown flowers. True artists at heart, this trio cultivated an elegant look that quickly became their trademark. Their brand was defined by using a beautiful variety of seasonal, heirloom blooms paired with natural design. Today’s method remains true to the Viavi tradition, with a ‘flower to vase’ philosophy that is defined by honoring the simple and natural beauty of each individual stem. http://www.viaviflowerfarm.com/

Sign up for both classes for $105
